Funeral of Mr A. Shearsmith, Hessle, 1939 Oct 9, Hull Daily Mail
The interment took place at Hessle Cemetery on Saturday of Mr Albert Shearsmith, of Westbourne-avenue, Hessle.
Mr Shearsmith, who was 61, was a well known local gardener. For many years he was a member of the Hessle and District Chrysanthemum Society and was at one time the secretary of the Ferriby Horticultural Society.
The service was conducted by the Plymouth Brethren. The chief mourners were: Mrs A. Shearsmith, widow; Mrs J. Jones, daughter; Mr W. Boyd, son-in-law; Mr and Mrs W. Shearsmith, father and stepmother; Mr and Mrs J. Shearsmith, Mr and Mrs P. Shearsmith, brothers and sisters-in-law; Mr and Mrs Ransom, Mr and Mrs Holmes, brothers-in-law and sisters; Mrs Bladon, Mrs G. Canty, sisters; Mrs A. Ward, sister-in-law; and Mrs G. Arnott, niece.
Among others present were: Mr W. Spencer, Mrs A. Taylor, Mrs Brown, senr., Mrs J. Wood, Miss Wood, Mrs Foster, Mrs A. Young, Mrs H. Wilson, Mrs F. Hodgson and Mrs J. Lowthorpe.
