John Shutwell Holmes on the death of his son Harold
Harold Holmes was killed in action in France in 1918. I’ve just been looking through his war records and found this particularly poignant note from his father, date Sept 4, 1920:
Dear Sir, we shall appreciate the inclosed scroll very much, commemorating one whom we all dearly loved; “We know through the precious blood of Christ he is with The Lord whom he loved”. P.S. I have just recd the scroll, else would have answered it before. Yours sincerely, John S. Holmes.
